Next to the Welsh Assembly Government Offices and the Senedd debating chamber in the heart of Cardiff Bay is 3 Assembly Square. Completed in the summer of 2009 with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating this 66,215 sq ft waterfront building is now home to M&A Solicitors and KPMG LLP.
Designed by architects Scott Brownrigg and sustainability consultants Arup the building utilises state-of-the-art technologies and systems, including a biomass boiler, chilled beams and gray rainwater harvesting.
The building is a distinctive addition to the Cardiff Bay waterfront, with timber louvres and feature glazing creating a tapestry-like effect across the exterior of the building, highlighted by a free-standing brise-soleil screen. Inside a full height atrium with staircase and lifts designed as a single sculptural form offer panoramic views across Cardiff Bay.
Cardiff Waterside is already home to some of the nation’s best known companies and institutions, including the Welsh Offices of the UK government, the European Commission, Graig Shipping and Lloyds Banking Group in the existing 520,000 sq ft. 3 Assembly Square is the first stage in the planned 500,000 sq ft expansion of Cardiff Waterside.
