BCO NextGen North Talk & Tour: 11 & 12 Wellington Place
The BCO NextGen North Committee invite you to a tour of Arup’s new Leeds office in 11 & 12 Wellington Place.
Arup has recently relocated over 500 employees, including 100 apprentices, to its new Leeds office, one of the UK’s most sustainable office buildings—11 & 12 Wellington Place.
The office fit-out was designed and delivered by Overbury, bringing Arup’s long-term sustainability goals to life while creating a dynamic workspace tailored to meet the needs of all employees. Overbury worked closely with the Arup team to ensure that material reuse was prioritized in the design, resulting in 60% of existing furniture being reclaimed for the fit-out.
The project achieved a low embodied carbon impact of 81.5 kg CO2e/m² (A1-A3), significantly exceeding Arup’s initial target of 100 kg CO2e/m². This also far outperforms typical embodied carbon emissions for fit-outs of this scale, which are estimated to be around 150-180 kg CO2e/m².
Arup’s new office generates less than 50% of the CO2 emissions typically associated with a new-build office, with emissions expected to reduce to zero following the successful procurement of a fully renewable energy tariff. This enables the building to meet the UKGBC’s net zero carbon operational energy standard and saves an estimated 407 tonnes of CO2e annually.
Attendees will also hear from Arup about how they are using performance data, captured from their tenancy, to inform future designs and challenge the status quo through data-driven insights.
