CENTRAL SAINT GILES
Central Saint Giles by London’s Covent Garden set out to be more than "just" an office building; the office space is clearly the main value driver but it is part of a mixed use complex which include both market and affordable residential accommodation and ground floor restaurants. This mix on its own was deemed not enough and what is really noteworthy about this 64,000m² development is the attempt to open up a number of routes through and across the site, in a way which has already transformed the surrounding area.

Previously an MoD fortress, the site has been transformed by bringing the floor plate alive and allowing the public to criss-cross throughout.

GOOGLE
In May 2011, Google UK agreed to rent 160,000 sq ft of office space at Central Saint Giles.

The brief to the fit out team, was for a highly shrewd commercial HQ, which merges dense metrics with fun, comfort, multi-function, & quirkiness with a general "nice place to be". Requirements included the design and delivery of a new reception area, meeting areas, breakout/informal meeting areas, video conferencing pods, a games room, and a high level of IT infrastructure that is essential to ensure day-to-day operational efficiency.

The design team, led by PENSON, enhances Google’s variation in non-office syling to reflect local London in a unilateral way. Various levels of the fit out encapsulate "the urban basement", "the Woolly Living Room", "the mirrored dressing rooms", "Granny’s spare bedroom" and "The Roof Gardens". Effectively a warped London Townhouse.

Central Saint Giles and Google’s office space are both defined by dynamic style and vibrancy. Join us at this BCO award winning development to see whether they have achieved the key element of the original brief and created “the best place to work in London”.
