Technical Tour – GOGGS

Refurbishing any building presents challenges, but when it is a listed building occupied by key government departments and situated in the heart of Westminster, those challenges take on a new dimension.

Transforming heritage buildings to meet the needs of modern business is no easy task. The original layout of the Government Offices Great George Street did not simply translate into spaces for 21st Century business practice. Changing cellular rooms which promoted isolation into open plan, team spaces, replacing obsolete services to meet the latest environmental and technological expectations, and satisfying sensitive listed building constraints, demands the most innovative and sympathetic approach. And this is exactly what has been successfully achieved by the project team.

The whole development has been a collaboration of public and private effort, led by a consortium of private funders, developers, designers, construction professionals, specialist trade contractors and facilities managers in order to deliver a building fit for HM Treasury and HM

Revenue & Customs, and to fulfil their desire to promote a new way of working.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has worked to ‘transform this treasure’. It represents 10 years of endeavour by a great team of people and it has been a privilege to work alongside them all.
