NextGen: Advocate’s Close Tour and Networking Evening

Advocate’s Close underwent a £45m regeneration which was designed to open up some of Edinburgh Old Town’s hidden lanes and closes into a thriving leisure and business destination. It is a site of great historical importance with the work revealing some of the 15th and 16th century building features as well as what is thought to be the city’s oldest townhouse, predating 1490. The disjointed buildings and enclosed location required an innovative approach to construction techniques – accommodating historic building regulations, opening up views and introducing a more fluid flow-through across the site.

During the event CSG will also provide an insight into their new development, The Registers, at 42 St Andrew Square & 38-52 West Register Street.
CSG is proposing a redevelopment of the existing buildings located on the south east corner of St Andrew Square, along West Register Street and on to South St Andrew Street. The Group’s aim is to deliver a high quality, comprehensive regeneration of this underutilised part of the city, bringing vitality and character to the currently redundant buildings and uninviting, neglected lanes surrounding them, whilst also restoring and conserving key historic buildings, some of which are on the ‘at risk’ register, having lain empty for many years.

The evening will finish with networking and drinks at Devil’s Advocate. This is an excellent opportunity to see one of the most prestigious developments in Edinburgh in recent years, as well as chance to catch up with fellow BCO members and industry professionals. As with previous NextGen events we would encourage existing members to bring a younger colleague with them to introduce them to the BCO.

Numbers are limited on this tour, so book quickly to avoid disappointment!
