The beautifully restored landmark Birmingham Town Hall will act as a stunning setting for the Midlands and East Anglia Awards Lunch. Opened in 1834 as the finest music hall in the country, this Grade I listed building has been lovingly restored and renovated, and now hosts a variety of events from concerts by City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to the BBC’s Question time.

Drinks will be hosted in the lower bar before guests are seated for a 3-course lunch in the main music hall. Lunch will be followed by entertainment from guest speaker Derek Redmond and the announcement of the Regional Award winners for the Midlands and East Anglia.

Speaker – Derek Redmond

Derek’s athletic achievements included breaking the British 400m record in 1985, later reclaiming it from Roger Black with an astounding time of 44.5 seconds. He became Commonwealth and European Champion in the 4x400m relay in 1986, World Silver medalist in 1987 and triumphed in 1991 World Championships when he and his 3 team members defied statistics and defeated the Americans, bringing home the 4x400m Gold Medal for Great Britain.

A significant moment was at the Barcelona Olympics, when Derek, tipped to win gold for Great Britain snapped his hamstring. The footage of Derek hobbling the remaining 250 metres of the race with the aid of his father is a passionate and emotional moment that will be remembered for years to come.
