Located at the heart of the city centre amongst one of the finest clusters of historic buildings in the country Manchester’s Grade II*listed Town Hall Extension and Central Library has undergone an extensive and bold refurbishment. Transformation of the buildings and of how public services are delivered has been at the core of this landmark project.

The Town Hall Extension is the City Council’s administrative headquarters. Opened in 1937 it has served the city for over seventy years remaining largely unchanged throughout this period. The refurbishment has now provided an exciting and dynamic work space whilst respecting many of the historic features of this great building. The adjacent Central Library has also undergone a comprehensive refurbishment and the two buildings are linked at ground and lower levels to facilitate people movement and shared servicing strategies.
