Launch of the BCO 2020 Awards & Newcastle Technical Tours

The event will take place at Live Works, BCO National Winner 2019 of the ‘Projects up to 1,500m2’ Award. Designed by Flanagan Lawrence, Live Works is part of Live Theatre’s evolving cultural quarter in Newcastle. It transforms a century old gap on the Quayside into a place for the community.

The paucity of Grade A office space in Newcastle sees few buildings attracting full market value, but Live Works has achieved that for Live Theatre. The new office building provides 1500sqm of premium, column-free office space. Each floor plate is natural lit from all aspects, with outdoor terraces staggered across the scheme, providing views of the magnificent quayside, adjacent listed buildings, and beyond.

Following the Awards launch, Cundall will present their Co-working research, exploring the rapid increase in demand for coworking and other flexible workspaces, driven by changes in the way people work with an increased appetite for less rigid arrangements, as well as financial pressures and a wish to reduce the burden of office leases.

Members will then have the opportunity to tour Live Works, as well as The Urban Sciences Building; a flagship development located on the £350m Newcastle Helix regeneration site in the heart of Newcastle, and home to the School of Computing. It is a lab for innovative research that has wide applications for business, industry and urban communities. Containing over 4,000 digital sensors, computing technology is embedded throughout the structure, making it one of the most monitored and high-performance buildings in the country.
