BCO Tour of Keynsham Civic Centre: 2015 BCO Regional Award Winner

As part of their property rationalisation programme, Bath & North East Somerset Council (BANES) took the bold step to build a large new office building and civic centre in Keynsham, rather than the more obvious location of Bath. They have used the civic offices as a catalyst for regeneration, creating a new Civic Centre adjacent to the offices with new public routes, a new square and new retail units to reinvigorate the retail pitch.

Rather than seeking a more conventional BREEAM rating, BANES have targeted energy (and therefore running cost) reduction with EPC ‘A’ and DEC ‘A’ ratings for the building, incorporating an early use of ‘soft landings’. If successful, this will be the first office in the country to target a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) A rating from the outset when supported by the Soft Landings process.

Speakers will include John Wright, a BCO Regional Judge and Director at Stride Treglown, Adam Spall from AHR who was the lead Architect for Keynsham Civic Centre and Derek Quilter, Divisional Director of Property & Project Delivery at Bath and North East Somerset Council.
