The design response to the brief and site has resulted in a very carefully crafted building using traditional materials in a contemporary way and which relies heavily on passive design to achieve comfort. The natural ventilation strategy was developed to cope with the busy and noisy road, and the need for active cooling has been avoided by allowing secure night time ventilation.

The talk will review the brief, design and construction, the experience of the occupiers and the competition process leading to a BCO regional award. The talk will be followed by a tour of the building.
