BCO Technical Visit to West Offices, York Council HQ

Delivering a modern headquarters and customer centre for the City of York, the building has been given a viable and sustainable future with excellent BREEAM, accommodating 1,400 staff in high quality flexible space. The scheme is described by English Heritage’s Chief Executive as “a national model for sustainable redevelopment of ‘older buildings’ and an example of construction conservation”.

The refurbishment involved taking predominantly cellular u-shaped building and provided open plan accommodation whilst retaining key important architectural components, including the notable and unique train shed canopy, which in the past stood in the way of practical design. The blend of old and new architecture, sustainable design, construction and operation, such as rainwater harvesting, solar panels, bio fuels for heating and natural daylight and ventilation are just some of the ways this modern building achieved this impressive refurbishment.

Join us to hear more about this project and enjoy refreshments and networking with your fellow BCO members and industry professionals after the tour.
