BCO Talk & Tour of The White Chapel Building

Derwent London and Fletcher Priest have transformed a 1980s office block on Whitechapel High Street into 185,000 sq ft of creative and media offices in under 10 months from purchase to completion. In an on-going commitment to sustainability, granite facades were simply cleaned and fittings re-purposed to reveal the hidden qualities of the existing building. These strategic, budget conscious interventions have created light-filled offices arranged around a public ‘living room’. The offices were let in record time to creative, media and technology organisations including the pioneering Government Digital Service and Unruly.

The entrance, signposted by giant, illuminated stencil lettering designed by Cartlidge Levene, has been re-located in order to give direct public access to a top-lit, seven-storey atrium with views through to a garden terrace.

Inside, a 7,000 sq ft reception offers a vibrant social space with a Grind bar and cafe for occupiers and the public, inviting Whitechapel’s rich cultural activity and atmosphere in from the street. High quality materials such as oak and exposed concrete suggest a relaxed domestic atmosphere alongside a selection of Mid-century modern furniture and textiles.

Fletcher Priest is currently working on phase two of The White Chapel Building, an 85,000 sq ft development of the ground floor and two vast basement levels of the building. In addition a new two-storey pavilion on the south facade will act as a beacon when approached from the City, further strengthening the new identity of The White Chapel Building and contributing to the public realm.

Fletcher Priest and Derwent London look forward to welcoming you to The White Chapel Building.
