BCO Research Presentation & Tour of Greenside, BCO Regional Award Winner 2018

Alastair Forbes, Architectural Director at Ryder Architecture, and author of BCO research Adaptive Reuse and the Contemporary Office will present key findings from the report. With a significant proportion of the UK office stock consisting of existing buildings, adaptive re-use seems an appropriate strategy for meeting the changing office demands of owners, developers and occupiers. As a result, adaptive re-use is increasingly becoming an integral strategy to improve the financial, environmental and social performance of buildings. This report considers the drivers, opportunities and challenges of adaptive reuse through analysis and case studies.

Chris Stewart Group will then introduce the Greenside development project. Located outwith Edinburgh’s traditional office core, CSG set out to turn a contemporary office building into a calm and peaceful retreat which would appeal to a wide range of occupiers. The building, originally constructed in 1988, was redeveloped into a contemporary multi-let environment, offering occupiers customised design options including an industrial ‘defurbished’ specification. A larger reception space adds prominence and visibility to the street approach, creating an attractive external terrace which has contributed to Greenside’s commercial success.
