BCO North – Tall Buildings Seminar & tour of PwC’s Offices

In 2016 the BCO published the 2nd Edition of Tall Buildings: A Strategic Design Guide. The publication has been re-worked and modernised to reflect the developing approach to tall building design and construction seen over the last 10 years, bringing together experience and knowledge of many industry specialists.

In the regions we are seeing a boom in tall buildings with 30, 40 and 50 storey towers being designed and constructed, however when compared to The Shard or the Leadenhall building they are modest in height. Almost exclusively the tall buildings we are seeing in Manchester and the North West are residential, with a prevalence to Build for Rent. No1 Spinningfields, the venue for this seminar, is a recently completed office building in Manchester City Centre. Standing at roughly 90m it is a rarity as the region’s tallest office building of recent years.

This seminar will discuss questions such as; is it realistic that the regions will ever develop to a scale of “national tall” let alone “global tall”? and with such a demand for grade A city centre office space as well as the millennial generation leaning towards city centre living, could we see mixed use tall buildings in regional cities to match the height of “national tall”?
