HSBC is the flagship new landmark office within Heart of the city phase II masterplan of Sheffield City Centre. HSBC is the anchor tenant on a 15-year lease, which commits a vitally important employer to the city centre. This phase has regenerated the area in between Charter Square, Cambridge Street and Pinstone Street. The development includes approximately 160,000 sq ft of office space, as well as 60,000 sq ft of retail space and high quality public realm.

The Challenge
Produce an office space where space, people and technology work together in pursuit of HSBC’s strategic objectives and design targets:

An evidence-based office design approach has been used, with consultants and designers engaging with staff and stakeholders through workshops, utilisation studies and observational analysis to determine what the workplace needs to deliver.

Adaptability
The adaptable office mirrors the increased need for flexibility as the business creates teams to deliver specific projects.

Technology
Appropriate furniture chosen to integrate technology into different areas of the office, including screens to facilitate presentations and collaboration (both locally and globally), wireless screen sharing capabilities, charging Ports, smartboards and VC.

Wellbeing
Biophilic design has been incorporated with the installation of living walls, planting and an outdoor garden space. Natural light, with views of the outside environment is a key element within the design with all areas having clear external views or natural light from the Atrium. Workplace wellbeing designs to promote less sedentary working.
