This ambitious project set out to generate an innovative way of working for Virgin Money’s new Operations Centre in Edinburgh.

Building on lessons learned from previous refurbishments, Spacelab have taken a listed building in the historic location of St Andrew Square and created a contemporary space which the client, staff and visitors to the building clearly enjoy.

The conversion over two levels posed challenges for the team, yet these were met head on through the creation of a new internal stair, which facilitated circulation and an openness rarely found in such buildings.

Bright corporate colours combined with quirky fittings and finishings belie a very competent office layout, which is well thought through in terms of working functions, break out spaces and learning zones.

The BCO Scottish Judges commented:

"The result is a truly inspiring office space, which is a welcome departure from traditional banking offices."
