BCO Technical Tour – 3 Assembly Square, Cardiff Bay

                      Summer 2008                                                 Spring 2009

Next to the Welsh Assembly Government Offices and the Senedd debating chamber in the heart of Cardiff Bay is 3 Assembly Square. Set for completion in Spring 2009 with topping out in early October, the 66,215 sq ft waterfront building is on course to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.

Designed by architects Scott Brownrigg and sustainability consultants Arup the building wll utilise state-of-the-art technologies and systems, including a biomass boiler, chilled beams and gray rainwater harvesting.

The building will be a distinctive addition to the Cardiff Bay waterfront, with timber louvres and feature glazing creating a tapestry-like effect across the exterior of the building, highlighted by a free-standing brise-soleil screen. Inside there will be a full height atrium with staircase and lifts designed as a single sculptural form offering panoramic views across Cardiff Bay.

Cardiff Waterside is already home to some of the nation’s best known companies and institutions, including the Welsh Offices of the UK government, the European Commission, Graig Shipping and HBOS plc in the existing 460,000 sq ft. 3 Assembly Square is the first stage in the planned 500,000 sq ft expansion of Cardiff Waterside.
