Awards Winners Tour – Horizon House, Bristol

Horizon House is far more than a new Head Office building for the Environment Agency. The project presented an opportunity to deliver a series of significant benefits for the business by creating a vibrant, sustainable workplace that would bring together segregated and dispersed parts of the Agency into a single, more efficient and cost effective city centre office.

The largest office building to achieve a BREEAM score of 85.06%, it’s green credentials include; ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and solar thermal array, mixed mode and natural ventilation, and a reduction in potable water use by 70%.

The Environment Agency’s relocation acted as a catalyst for change, enabling the already environmentally aware stakeholders to re-evaluate every aspect of the business. This included how they: travelled to the office, worked, used their space, interacted, socialised and expressed themselves as an organisation both internally and externally.

The BCO Regional Judges commented:

"This development sets new standards of sustainable development, whilst the high quality work setting encourages improved working practices."
