Wearable technology is part of a larger trend in intelligent buildings. The report shows that the advantages in wearables in the workplace include increased awareness of health, more information about how body and mind respond in various conditions, and potential integration with health service providers. However, there are challenges including the need for employers to adopt a sensitive approach to privacy and inclusivity, the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology, and the ability to analyse big data.
Wearables for work provide an opportunity to improve productivity and efficiency and are likely to create opportunities for those taking advantage of this. However, their introduction and use needs to be done with sensitivity and transparency and employee education will go some way in resolving any issues.
This report summarises the current and future developments in wearable technology as they relate to furthering the health and wellbeing of people in office environments.
