INNOVATION

Regional Judges are asked to consider all projects for the Innovation Award. For the first time this award is presented on a regional level and recognises a significant level of innovation in one, or more, fields.

In recognition of the importance of this category, and to highlight some of the exceptional innovative concepts that are developed across the UK’s buildings every year, the BCO introduced the Regional Innovation Award.

 19MID_IngenuityHouseTOUSE

Ingenuity House, Interserve UK Hub,  Elmdon Trading Estate, Bickenhill Lane, Marston Green, Birmingham

Located at Elmdon Trading Estate, Ingenuity House has successfully transformed Interserve’s way of working. The office brings together five distinct parts of the business, previously located across the region, into one healthy and inspirational working environment. The BCO judges praised the project for consulting with employees throughout the project, meaning it now caters for their varied needs. Judges agreed the result is an intelligent building that uses technology to ensure space and energy efficiency.

LONDON

 19LON_ForaBoroughNEW

Fora Borough, 180 Borough High Street, Borough London

Fora differentiates its workplace offer with a focus on thoughtful design and customer service. The project is now being used to benchmark subsequent locations, so every Fora delivers “spaces to be brilliant.” The judges praised the openness of the ground floor, which hosts a café and restaurant and helps to build a community between the office and its neighbourhood.

SCOTLAND

 19SCOT_16ChurchStreet

16 Church Street, Dumbarton

16 Church Street was awarded both 'Best Corporate Workplace' and the coveted Innovation Award. The judges felt the project tells a compelling story of regeneration, bringing dignity and purpose to an old-fashioned, previously decaying building. The new home of West Dunbartonshire Council has brought the company’s 500 employees closer together over three floors centred around a single atrium, which acts as the social heart of the office. The open atrium makes the most of the natural light and has been designed to cater a range of working styles. The judges were also impressed with the impact 16 Church Street has had on its community as the design decided not to install a staff canteen, in order to encourage employees to support local shops and cafes.

 19NOR_JanetNashHouse

Janet Nash House, Meadowfield Industrial Estate, Durham

Durham’s Janet Nash House took home two awards last night, winning both Best Corporate Workplace and the Innovation Award. The judges were impressed by the range and contrast of spaces, specifically designed to suit the needs of each employee. The BCO panel agreed wellbeing had been firmly planted at the root of the design, with enhanced amenities including a café and gymnasium available to all employees. The judges agreed the emphasis on bringing the outside world in had a dramatic effect on the space, with sheltered outdoor seating areas and a carefully curated planting strategy
